NEW RIVER GORGE
About ACE Adventure Resort
ACE Adventure Resort is the East Coast’s largest mountain hideaway exclusively focused on world-class whitewater rafting along with guided adventures, outdoor sports and activities, lodging, camping and other amenities. The nearby New River Gorge National River is affectionately known as the “Grand Canyon of the East” and features rafting from April to October. The New and Gauley Rivers combined offer over 100 miles of rapids all within 30 minutes of the resort. Both rivers are administered by the National Park Service. ACE’s passion since 1980 has been to create vacations wrapped around these rivers and other outdoor adventures so that guests can experience “a world of adventure in one place.” The 1,500 acres here encompass both forest and a 5-acre lake plus a series of ponds, a mining-era ghost town and spectacular cliffs for rock climbing, waterfalls and overlooks.
Where to Stay
Oglebay Resort and Conference Center
Situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Wheeling, W.V., Oglebay Resort and Conference Center offers exceptional overnight accommodations, world-class amenities and 1,700 acres of year-round recreational opportunities. Swimming, tennis, horse stables, miniature golf, fishing, miles of paved walking/jogging trails, shopping, sightseeing, and visiting the West Spa and 30-acre Good Zoo are among the numerous activities onsite.
Once the estate of Earl W. Oglebay, the resort and conference center land dates back to the late 1700s. Upon his death in 1926, Oglebay willed his property to the people of Wheeling for as long as “they operate it as a place for public recreation.” Today it is the only self-supporting public municipal resort in operation. Funded mainly through its resort operations, Oglebay Park has more free activities than many facilities of its type in the country.
Oglebay is best known for golf as the resort presents four courses, including two championship layouts at the Speidel Golf Club. The par-71 Arnold Palmer design is a modern links layout that takes advantage of the rolling terrain with strategically-placed bunkers, contemporary mounding and ample-size greens. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the Jones Course is draped over the hills and dales of a former dairy farm, and hosted the West Virginia LPGA Classic for 11 years.
The resort also features the 18-hole regulation Crispin Course Oglebay’s original layout and a nine-hole, par-3 course. A full-service practice range and short-game area at Speidel offer warm-up and game-improvement opportunities.
Accommodations include the inviting, 270-room Wilson Lodge, quaint cottages and spacious estate houses. With over 20,000 square feet of meeting space spread over 15 rooms, Oglebay offers all the amenities to meet today’s business demands, and provides an ideal setting for training programs and corporate retreats.
Oglebay Resort and Conference Center West Virginia’s most popular golf destination set in Oglebay Park in the Appalachian foothills unveils its “Swing Into Spring” golf package, pairing championship golf and exceptional value.
Starting at $129 per person (based on double occupancy), the “Swing Into Spring” golf package includes nightly accommodations, golf on two acclaimed 18-hole layouts at the Speidel Golf Club designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Arnold Palmer, and GPS cart for each round.
Besides Speidel Golf Club, Oglebay’s golf amenities include the resort’s original course the Crispin at just over 5,600 yards and ideal for warm-up rounds, seniors and beginners two driving ranges and a family-friendly par-3 course at Wheeling Park.
“The ‘Swing Into Spring’ getaway is ideal to start the golf season off right with rounds on two of West Virginia’s most scenic layouts,” says Rodney Haley, Executive Vice President of Operations. “Oglebay also provides a welcoming break away from the hustle and bustle with our comfortable accommodations and friendly customer care.”

The Greenbrier Chapel Officially Opened With A Wedding Ceremony
Jill Justice, the daughter of Jim and Cathy Justice of Lewisburg, WV, and Adam Long, the son of Charlie and Jo Long of Frankford, WV, were married in a beautiful ceremony in The Greenbrier Chapel on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at 5:30pm. The couple married in the recently completed Greenbrier Chapel, nestled on the grounds of The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV. The chapel's spectacular stained-glass windows were designed by Carleton Varney, the legendary long-time interior decorator of The Greenbrier. Bob Cochran was the on-site project manager.
The classic white wood and stone chapel, which can seat up to 500 guests, features a spectacular copper roof and steeple and colorful stained glass windows, which evoke the alluring landscapes of West Virginia. The rustic elegant interior of The Greenbrier Chapel features exposed wood-beam ceilings adorned with 10 custom chandeliers, checkerboard stained-wood floors, a wrap-around balcony and carved wood pews.
The couple exited The Greenbrier Chapel as three antique church bells from 1924 rang in celebration.
